About Us

Learning for Life

Our Ethos

At Martin House School, we aim to develop tomorrow’s adults who will be academically and emotionally prepared for the challenges of the future. We aim to inspire a love of and respect for their natural environment, and the importance of conservation for future generations.

Our Philosophy

We cultivate a deep respect for each individual, the school, and natural environment.

Martin House encourages and supports hard work. This, and a solid work ethic, is the key to success.

Each and every pupil as is treated as a unique individual. We encourage them to strive for their personal best.

Personal Achievements

Students are taught to live their lives as engaged local and global citizens. We empower them to know their own potential, and strive to Learn for Life.

It is the quality of our education, our small teacher / pupil ratio, our Christian ethos, and wide range of activities that makes our school unique.

Unique Environment

Martin House makes the most of the opportunities our farming environment and lush Zambian bush have to offer. Our learning experience is enriched by being in the middle of farmland, and surrounded by abundant flora and fauna.

Our location makes it possible to expose our learners to the wonders of the natural environment.

Our Outreach

We strive to develop compassionate human beings who have time for their neighbour. With this in mind, we started the Random Acts of Kindness campaign to make our children aware that it is the small things in life which make a difference.

Our Outreach project has been extended to the neighbouring Nyamba School, the Children’s Cancer Ward at UTH Hospital in Lusaka, and Kanwanduba Community School. Donations vary from books, toys, stationery, blankets, and classroom posters which the children designed and decorated.

A Message from the Principal

When you tour our school with me, we will see animated, engaged pupils; many will be working collaboratively, exchanging views and opinions and testing theories.

As we listen at classroom doors, we will hear pupils asking as many questions as they answer, students taking risks and wondering out loud in their quest for greater and deeper understanding.

As we continue, we will be aware of the energetic buzz coming from each classroom; we will notice the teachers working with groups, pairs or individuals, listening to their ideas and guiding their learning by asking them to refine or clarify or evaluate their approaches.

We will be confronted by children with excellent manners, children who greet us, children with good old fashioned values and respect!

When we talk to pupils about their work, we will find them enthusiastic, even impassioned, about their learning; we will be struck by how clearly they seem to understand their learning goals and the purpose behind the activities they are engaged in.  These activities require them to explore, to inquire, to hypothesise, to evaluate, to analyse and to create.

At some point during our tour we might find ourselves reflecting  on our own experiences of education and wishing they had been more like this because, quite frankly, it just looks so much fun!

But of course a good education is about far more than what takes place in the classroom; it is about guiding the whole person towards his or her full potential. A great school helps students to develop qualities as learners and leaders that will serve them well throughout their adult lives such as resilience, empathy, creativity, commitment, adaptability, self-confidence and humility.

A great school helps students to acquire transferable skills like teamwork, analysis, problem-solving, effective communication, evaluation, active listening, reflection and research; and it helps students to shape and consolidate their values such as tolerance, integrity and hard work.

Martin House is blessed with a truly passionate staff and student body as well as a palpably warm, tolerant and welcoming ethos but to these inherent advantages it has added a wide range of events, strategies and activities designed to shape and develop the whole child. To mention but a few;

  • Our boarding establishment is a true home away from home experience, with many children wanting to stay on, on a Friday!

  • Our children participate in community service every year

  • All students attend a residential outdoor education experience each year

  • All students take part in Inter-House competitions, whether they be sporting or cultural, where the emphasis is on teamwork and participation

  • Our programme offers a wide variety of sport codes and our teams have proved to be very competitive, always displaying excellent sportsmanship!

  • All students take part in some kind of public performance each year, where they demonstrate their dramatic and musical skills.

…….put simply, Martin House is a school where children flourish….all of them!
