Learning for Life
Playing for the Love of the Game
It is our intention to give our children an all-round education and to encourage balance in their lives. With this in mind, we regard the coaching of sport as part of the educational process and an essential component of the experience offered at Martin House.
Learners are encouraged to participate in as wide a variety of sports as possible and to develop a love for competing, doing one’s best, winning or losing well and everything that goes with team participation.
Working together, achieving a common goal, camaraderie, working through differences and celebrating each other’s highs and lows. These are important skills for our students to develop.
Martin House College offers a beautiful setting with wide open spaces to get involved and experience all the exciting opportunities that are on offer.

Our Sport
Athletics
Athletics takes place in the second term. Both track and field events are coached and the Interhouse meeting is a buzz of excitement, determination and effort between Sable and Eland.
Cross Country
Our campus lends itself to an interesting and challenging course. The rainy season in Term 1 also adds to the fun! The track is run on a daily basis and it is heart-warming to see the level of fitness and determination improve and grow as the Term progresses. An Interhouse meeting is held at the end of Term as well as interschool meetings.
Cricket
Cricket is a firm favourite amongst the lads. It is coached throughout Term 1 and 3. Apart from school coaching, professional coaches are also present throughout the Terms to assist the boys. A number of matches are played throughout the year.
Hockey
Both boys and girls play hockey at Martin House. This sports code is presented in the second term. Interschool matches are played on a regular basis throughout the Term.
Netball
While the boys spend time in the cricket nets, the girls are busy on the Netball court in Term 1. A number of interschool matches are played and the girls thoroughly enjoy this disciplined sports code.
Rugby
Rugby forms part of our winter sport programme and is coached in the second term. A very popular sport amongst the lads.
Soccer
Although played enthusiastically by all our boys, our girls also venture onto the field and thoroughly enjoy the sport. Soccer is coached in the first term.
Swimming
Swimming is coached in Term 1 and 3. Apart from the Interhouse gala in Term 1, an individual gala in Term 3 encourages our swimmers to achieve their own personal best. Interschool galas are hosted and attended regularly.
Tennis
This is an exciting sports code and both our boys and girls participate with enthusiasm. Interschool matches are played.
